Happy Flag Day!

Flag day blog header

Every June 14, we celebrate Flag Day in the United States of America, commemorating our nation’s flag and the history behind it. As we gear up for this special holiday, check out our top three ways to celebrate Flag Day as the school year comes to an end.

1. Make It About the History

Explain the history of the American Flag and the symbolism behind each of the flag’s parts. Have students write or type a sentence or paragraph about the history of the American Flag and how it has become the flag we all know today.

2. Celebrate Flag Day the Right Way

Did you know that there are certain rules of etiquette that must be followed in relation to the American Flag? Explore flag etiquette with your students, teaching them about how to properly display, handle, and honor the American Flag.

3. Explore More Flags

In addition to celebrating the American Flag this Flag Day, explore nautical flags and their correspondence to different letters of the alphabet. Check out our special download that teaches children about nautical flags as part of our Supporting Our Sailors at Sea program.

Don’t forget to get your students moving and grooving while celebrating this Flag Day by playing “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” It’s time to have fun celebrating flags!
